Volunteer
The friends of the Erie County Library is an all-volunteer organization. There are many areas in which assistance is needed. Volunteers decide what they would like to do and how much time they are able to commit.
The Friends of the Library Board is looking for one to three people who would be interested in coordinating the moving of boxes of books for the Friends of the Library book sales. These are important jobs essential to our book sales that provide free library programming that would not be possible otherwise.
The coordinator(s) would be responsible for planning and carrying out the following moves:
1. Coordinate the moving of packed boxes from the Blasco Library to a storage trailer and from our warehouse to the storage trailer, about once or twice a month.
2. Coordinate the moving of packed boxes between the warehouse and the Blasco Library during our 3 smaller sales in February, May and October.
3. Coordinate the moving of packed boxes between the warehouse and the Flo Fabrizio ice rink during the Great American Book Sale in June.
The person in charge doesn’t need the strength to lift boxes but does need to lead a team of individuals who are capable of handling relatively heavy boxes of materials.
A library van is used to transport the boxes, so the coordinator or someone on their team needs to be able to drive an intermediate sized truck.
The coordinator(s) would work with our current head of logistics during the upcoming year so that there would be a seamless transition.

You can also help in the following ways:
- Work at the Great American Book Sale or at one of our smaller sales. Help is needed with setup, at the sales, and with takedown.
- Volunteer at the Bayfront Bookshelf, the book store operated by the Friends of the Library. Workers have assigned shifts, typically once a week.
- Assist at one of our book drives. There are typically 2 book drives a year, one in spring and one in late summer/fall.
- Join our crew that moves books to and from our storage areas.
- Serve on the Friends’ board.
